Over time everything changes and alas not always for the better. In the last 30 or more years accountancy has seen many changes. There now seems to be literally thousands of Accountants. The more established practices saying only the most qualified and regulated accountants should be used. Whilst at the opposite end more systems and software are becoming available, making accounting easier and more accessible.
Our opinion after witnessing these changes for 30 odd years is still the same. Regardless of age or qualifications, like all industries there are some very good and some very bad accountants around.
Is your accountant an integral part of your business. Someone who calls you up and you can call up and have a chat with. Does your accountant offer an insight into your business and suggest ways to improve it. Or do you only hear from your accountant when its time for them to file accounts or returns.
Are you receiving value for money. The disparity between what one accountant may charge compared to another still amazes us. Does your accountant give you a breakdown of his charges. How much an hour does it really equate to.
So it begs the question. Would you know if you have a good or bad accountant, what are you comparing them to.
If you believe you have a good accountant then our advice is to stick with them. However if your business is not all it could be, it may be time to look for a change. Remember there are thousands of accountants to choose from.
